In hopes of cutting down on cheating by students, many schools have implement school honor codes. The question I pose to you is: Do school honor codes work? Are they effective? Is there a better method to stop student cheating? Make sure to provide support to your argument.

DeleteI think that its right and not right to have an honor code in schools because schools cant make kids sign anything they don't want to and only the kids that agree to sign it can sign one but you can't make any kid sign anything.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.theonion.com/articles/your-honor-this-is-going-to-sound-silly-but-how-am,29532/
I agree that they can't make you do something you don't want to
DeleteI agree but even if they sign it depends on how trustworthy the person really is.
Deleteyes I also agree because if I don't want to sine something I don't have toand I can cheat If I really want to anyway
DeleteI agree with this to because sometimes it might get your agnerline rushing and u get mad then u do something stupid. But then it is also from where you have grown up in here is an example. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2649668/
DeleteI think the same way
Deletei think your right if i don't want to do i wont
DeleteI also believe that it is a good idea for a honor codes
DeleteThe school honor codes are to not
ReplyDeletePlagirise

The honor codes are very important and you have to follow them if you agree to them.
Honor codes cause kids to be very very very formal about what they do for the school
No because when you cheat for the first time it feels like a big deal kinda like a habit it starts out small and gets bigger then turns into a habit and then a lifestyle and then it becomes a monstrous problem. Also people who cheat will do it anyway cause a piece of paper will not stop them they will do it anyway.
ReplyDeletei agre
DeleteI dissagree I think if they cheat they should be punished but if it is your freind it is your diside
DeleteI think people should not cheat even if they what a good grade they should just do the work

Deletei agree because once they start they do not stop unless they suffer the consequences! i my opinion
Deletei agree they wont stop until it hurts them
DeleteI agree!
DeleteI say it can be beneficial because you are still learning but vary late learning. So that is what I say.
ReplyDeleteI aggree
DeleteI do not agree because people who cheat will do it anyway cause a piece of paper will not stop them they will do it anyway.
Deletei dont aggree
Deleteagree
DeleteI got all of this from nothing to me it is just common sense. I find it hard to believe that it is considered cheating but you are still studying wile you do the test because you are still learning.
DeleteWell even if they do cheat and they get caught for the first time they get a warning BUT if they do it a second time they might get a detention or a lunch detention and a third time they will get a phone call home and probably have to do it over again. My cousin has cheated over and over again and he won't stop he keeps getting sent to the principles office and he knows not to cheat but he does it any way if he keeps on doing this he could get fired from his job when he gets one at say McDonald's cause he could cheat someone out on like a McChicken and they could get sick and die! The leason I learned from watching him is No Cheating!!!!!!
Deletei don't agree
Deletei also think it is beneficial but what if someone gets made becuase someone told on them.
DeleteThese are the thing s that honor codes represent and here you go
ReplyDeleteThe honor code is a statement addressing issues such as cheating, stealing, and misrepresentation, made by a school or other institution in which its participants pledge to adhere to. Honor codes are self-regulating because under an honor code, students are required to turn in other students in violation of the code. Some issues addressed in honor codes are the following:
Cheating
Plagiarism
Fabrication
Multiple submissions
Misrepresentation
Unfair advantages
Most college honor code violations are cheating and plagiarism, therefore, some Honor Codes also include guidelines or points of emphasis to help keep misunderstanding and problems to a minimum. Many of the honor codes write that students should distinguish what is truly their work from other people’s ideas. The honor codes also recommend that students should know exactly what their professors expect and want on a particular assignment.
that is alot of reasons most kids shouldnt do any of those things
Deletei agree with you because all of these things is what honor code is made for kids or adults not to do and some kids do that because they are either to lazy or they don't believe they can do there own work.
Deletei don,t agree i think that we should not have a honer code :[
DeleteThe Honor Code is an undertaking of the students, individually and collectively:
ReplyDeletethat they will not give or receive aid in examinations; that they will not give or receive unpermitted aid in class work, in the preparation of reports, or in any other work that is to be used by the instructor as the basis of grading;
that they will do their share and take an active part in seeing to it that others as well as themselves uphold the spirit and letter of the Honor Code.
The faculty on its part manifests its confidence in the honor of its students by refraining from proctoring examinations and from taking unusual and unreasonable precautions to prevent the forms of dishonesty mentioned above. The faculty will also avoid, as far as practicable, academic procedures that create temptations to violate the Honor Code.
While the faculty alone has the right and obligation to set academic requirements, the students and faculty will work together to establish optimal conditions for honorable academic work.
http://studentaffairs.stanford.edu/communitystandards/policy/honor-code
That is the code that you must follow if you have a honor code and you will have to follow they rules. I tinnk that they are good rules to follow for all the reasons there.
I agree!
DeleteI agree because it almost always has something to do with someones passed and reasons they don't just do it because they feel like it.
Deletei don't agree at all i think that we should not have to do this

ReplyDeleteI say yes because it is ther falt if they cheat and no I will not rat out my freind becuase we will fight and not be freinds.

DeleteAnd the reson why I said yes is because they should have a expolion and they and I will not rat out my freind or any of my family members because they should be in touble like a warning but not be kick out of the school and that is why I think I say yes.

a honor code is a set of rules or standards to make people to be trusted and honorable http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honor_code
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Cameron
DeleteI Think yes it does but no it doesn’t. It kind of depends who the person is. People can sign a contract, doesn’t mean they will listen to that. If they were going to cheat nothings stopping them. It might lower the chances of people doing it a bit for people who will actually listen, but that doesn’t mean they will listen. Most schools who have the honor code rely on it, but nobodys directly watching them. Also what if your best friends sitting by you and cheating, you don’t want to rat them out. Or any body because even if you do or don’t you don’t want the consequences after it. Otherwise it kind of depends on the person and how trustworthy they are.

I got this information from http://www-cs-faculty.stanford.edu/~eroberts/cs181/projects/honor-code/honorcodes.html
I agree turn people in even if they are you friend
DeleteWell you do not want to be a snitch though.People will not like you that much and you would be mostly alone and people could start making fun of you too.
Deletei have to agree with u on this i have to turn the person in even if they are your friend it does not mean that you guys cant still be friends.
DeleteYou don't have to snitch on them but you will be in the same amount of trouble as them
DeleteI do not except the honor code because i would never rat my friend out because we would fight and then we would never be friends again.
ReplyDeletei think you should but you would be breaking the honor code too.
DeleteWell I think they are sometimes effective. It may work at some schools but I do believe That honor codes will not stop cheating completely. It may stop some people but definitely not all.I believe that cheating will not completely stop because of an honor code.I also think that if it was to completely stop in one school that it would not make much of a difference.
ReplyDeleteI agree but it really just depends on the person and how they think and what they think is "Right".
DeleteI agree because nothing can stop people from cheating and people will do it if they feel like it
DeleteI say no and yes mostly yes Because first you can not stop people from cheating.I do agree the you should turn people in because they are not learning anything.I also think that cheating on a test or a quiz the karma comes back on you.I think you should tell the teacher or someone that the person is cheating. If you do tell winch you should but if the person is you best friend or someone you don't know still tell a teacher it would be the best for that person.I think it is the person choice to cheat or not follow the honor codes cause the ether do not know the question or just don't want to be at school.I think that kids that cheat and do not get caught should think what their doing not just get the answer off there phone i think they should not have phones in school because it is easy for someone to cheat on a test.Or at lease take there phone away until everyone is done with the quiz or test.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.apa.org/monitor/2011/06/cheat.aspx
I agree, and you never know where they are copying from. But not everyone has a phone to copy off of. They should get punished for copying either.
Deletei agree because it will stop some people but not all but even if they do stop cheating there will be a chance that fighting will happen because someone turned in someone who was cheating and they didn't like that so they start a fight about it.
Deletei say no because if you see someone cheating and you tell the teacher then you will get in much as trouble as if you dont tell the teacher because the person you just told on is going to get mad and might punch you or bully you because you told on them. i think honor codes are not really a great way to make kids not cheat because more kids are going to get hurt with honor codes
ReplyDeletehttp://www.scu.edu/r/ethics-center/ethicsblog/atthecenter/15653/Do-Honor-Codes-Work
I agree with you because I say no to cheating also.
DeleteI agree but disagree because they can still cheat even if they sign something.
DeleteI agree it'll just make things worse.
Delete
ReplyDeleteI say no to cheating.I don’t understand why people cheat. It is not good for your grades if you get caught.Cheating just leads to consequences.”A kid who thinks cheating is the only to pass a test needs to talk with the teacher and his or her parents so they can find some soulotions togeether.” This is a way to stop cheating because the kids don’t want their parents to find out that they were cheating. Also because they are going to be nervous because they know that it is not right to cheat in class.Even if you are not at school you shouldn’t cheat. http://kidshealth.org/kid/feeling/school/cheating.html
they have honor code so you don't act out of place or cheat on anything like cheating on a test or some kind of assignment that you need to work on without any kind of help.
ReplyDeleteI think it is wrong to have a honor code. I feel that way because teens could get bullied for turning in anther student. Also if a teen cheats without a honor code why wouldn't they cheat even if they have a honor code. I know there are laws agents cheating at school but how meany students actually get caught cheating. Also not meany people will tell on there friends if they see them cheating. http://thejournal.com/articles/2013/09/02/from-texting-to-plagiarism-how-to-stop-high-tech-cheating.aspx
ReplyDeleteI agree. Also, it doesn't do much of what everyone tries to make it do.
DeleteShown here: http://tech.mit.edu/V112/N5/dissent.05o.html
I do think that school honor codes could work but they don't always. The only reasons why students cheat is because they are unprepared, they don't care about their school grade, and pressure. "The worst damage, though, may be to a young person's self esteem and sense of competence. Success is only worthwhile when it is based on true merit. If a grade is not as high as a student had hoped, there is immeasurable consolation in having made an honest effort. No matter the outcome, trying your best is its own reward." http://www.aboutourkids.org/ The website says. "Cheating in school has also been linked to similar, unethical behaviors once young people are out in the "real world." Not every young person who cheats on an algebra test will go on to commit insider trading, hatch a Ponzi scheme, or plagiarize a story for a major newspaper. However, early habits and rationalizations can pave the way for potentially damaging decisions later in life. Many cheaters do get caught, both in school and in the real world, upending lives and ruining reputations." http://www.aboutourkids.org/ The website says.
ReplyDeletei agree
Deleteyes because it stops most of all people from cheating and if they do cheat they should have a punishment and anybody that knew the person was cheating would also be in major trouble and would be expelled and would not be able to come back to school! if i knew that anyone in my class was cheating i would turn them in/ in a split second because i would always fallow the rules. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honor_code
ReplyDeleteI agree because they should get punished for cheating. And everyone should stick to the honor code and turn anyone and everyone in that try to cheat.
DeleteI do not like the honor code. If I see some one cheat and it is my friend I will probably not tell a teacher. If it is some one that is stronger than me I will probably not snitch. If I don't like the person I would probably tell. Plus it is not my job to worry about what other people are doing during a test. If teachers really want to stop cheating they can take away electronics wile taking a test and watch the kids more carefully. If you want to see more ways you can look at the link http://www.wikihow.com/Prevent-Students-from-Cheating
ReplyDeleteI agree with you alyssah because that is what i basically talked about.
DeleteI agree i didn't think of that.
DeleteI believe that you are wrong but with the honor code you would not have to turn in your friend but make sure they don't get caught.
DeleteI like it because then on really big test or something if you do work and people are cheating off of you and you don't know it then you are basically doing there work for them and they just write it down i don't like it because then when you have to do a report and you want to write something from another page and you don't have enough time then you wont get done since you can t copy and paste because it would be plagiarism.
ReplyDeleteNo because if you look at another persons paper to make shire there not cheating than your a cheater. The part where they say “They’re basically no different from the unfounded concerns previous generations had about the new media of their day”. They are right because you don’t necessarily do everything you see.

ReplyDeleteThe part were it says "Honor codes stress the notion that students are responsible for policing each other and ensuring a level academic playing field." That means like it stresses all of the students out because they don't know if people are going to tell on the for looking at someones paper or not. The Honor Roll is good because it helps people not to be cheating on tests and quizis but also if they know you snitched on them, they might freak out on you and bully you. But other than that i think it would be a good idea for the Honor Codes
I say no that honor code dose not work because it can lead to more cheating and fights and even hatred. i found a wed cite that told me that it don't!...

Deletei agree
DeleteI disagree because what if there cheating off of somebody that has the wrong answers.
DeleteI believe that yes honor codes do work because that if someone thinks they are going to be caught but then when someone might want to hurt the person that tells on them. Gary Pamela, director of academic integrity at Syracuse University, had a simple answer to the question, Do honor codes promote greater academic integrity on college campuses. Yes.
ReplyDeleteAt a talk today sponsored by the Ethics Center, Pamela shared his experiences developing the first "modified honor code" at the University of Maryland in 1991. As background, Pamela described traditional honor codes at schools like the University of Virginia and the service academies, where the punishment for any violation is expulsion. Students must sign an honor pledge, and they are obligated to report their classmates if they see cheating. This all came from this website
http://www.scu.edu/r/ethics-center/ethicsblog/atthecenter/15653/Do-Honor-Codes-Work
I agree and also teachers want to see kids advancing in there work by remembering it and studying
DeleteTo combat cheating, most universities and high schools rely on an honor code, founded upon the belief that students are mature and responsible enough to regulate themselves. Yet students do not always display the most honorable behavior. As such, is placing the regulation of cheating in the hands of students truly an effective practice?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.policymic.com/articles/3013/can-we-trust-school-honor-codes-to-prevent-cheating
i say no because if they still sign this honor code they still my cheat on the test r anything else with homework
Deletei agree just because they sign does not mean they wont cheat it gives them a bigger chance to cheat because they wont be looking because the trust the student so while they aren't looking the the students will problem cheat

I think honor codes do not work because then there will be more fights about snitches and people do not like being called a snitch. Then once you snitch on someone then the will started calling you a snitch. And that will be called bullying. After being called names and picked on suicide can happen anytime. Then when suicide happens the person that was bullying that kid will feel really bad. http://www.scu.edu/r/ethics-center/ethicsblog/atthecenter/15653/Do-Honor-Codes-Work

ReplyDeletefreedom-to-tinker.com/blog/felten/do-university-honor-codes-work/ this is were i got my infow
DeleteI think i doesn't help at all. here are some reason why i think this. firstly no one wants to be a snitch. secondly its not going to stop just because for it to. so that's why i believe it wont work.
ReplyDeleteI think that honor codes can be bad because u reputation can get hurt if u snitch or tell on them. And McCabe must agree because he even says that school's that don't have honor code have more honor they will tell someone and not keep to themselves . And no they don't work because even if they had honor code kids would still cheat. And it makes kids more eligible to cheat
ReplyDeletehere's my proof that honor don't work and gives advantage to cheaters. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/06/magazine/does-an-honor-code-make-it-too-easy-to-cheat.html?_r=0.

ReplyDeletePeople shouldn't even cheat for the first place. It's like when you cheat on like a math test and the person by knows that our cheating he/she would call for the teacher for that, you won't get away with it and even if you do you will get caught.

ReplyDeleteLiying is the worst thing ever is so is cheating so yeah I think so
DeleteI say no because, a student would have to be willing to snitch on another student. And if they don't want to they'll get in trouble. I don't think it's fair that you have to be a snitch, or get in trouble for something you have nothing to do with. Also it ruins relationships between the students, the good thing is it would probably make a lot of the students stop cheating. http://www.ravenscroft.org/uploaded/Middle_School_Docs/MSHonorCode.pdf

by telling on them for cheating the students who do cheat they have to deal with the guilty for the rest of there lives.
Yes because If you didn't tell on them and kept it a secret then you reputation would be ruined and so as the other person that plagiarism. This is something you want to think about or bad things are going to happen. http://www.miami.edu/sa/index.php/dean_of_students/undergraduate_honor_council/honor_code/ and this is a place where it tells you that cheating is bad.

ReplyDeleteI wouldn't want to get my friend in trouble too and their's always a chance you could be friends again.
DeleteIt would cause a fight because my friend would get in trouble and he would probably try to get me in trouble so that's why I wouldn't tell on my friend.I wouldn't want to get in trouble for something I didn't do.And if you tell on anyone they will try to get you in trouble.

DeleteI believe that Honor codes are bad because it turns kids against each other. For those not up on the internal practices academia, schools with honor codes require students to sign a pledge promising to behave in accordance with community standards, and are expected to hold to that on there own honor. This is a popular system among snooty private colleges.-Chad Orzel
ReplyDeletelink: http://scienceblogs.com/principles/2007/04/25/when-honor-codes-go-bad/
I agree with you 100% because of the facts you have and we share the same opinion because of how kids act from how adults want us to.
DeleteI think yes because teachers want to see kids advancing in there work by studding and remembering your work and getting smarter.
ReplyDeleteSo teachers can know where to put kids kids in the right classes.
Later in life when you go to take test your not going to be able to cheat off of anybody because your in a room sometimes by yourself with other teachers.
http://www.debate.org/search?q=honor%20codes
I agree and disagree at the same time because I think that some would work but not all.
DeleteHonor codes can lead to fights because people you are cheating can get in trouble and if another person find out there cheating then if the person who was caught cheating gets told on that person who told could get bullied for the rest of there life. But if you don't tell and the teacher knows you saw the person cheating you could get a punishment for not telling. So both situations is like a problem problem you tell you get beat up you don't tell you get punishment by the teacher or principle.

DeleteI think yes because people should do what is right and,it helps kids because it puts pressure on them if they are closely being watched.I also think yes because school is not for cheaters and back stabbers.I got these from the paper and what I already know.

ReplyDeleteI think that they should add them but i'm on both sides at this point. I mean that it would be good to also do it because if someones cheating and someone sees you then they also get in trouble. Also you don't want to be a snitch or you get make fun of, bullied, and then your friends don't like you anymore. It's is good also so it stops the majority of cheating for teens. like i said i'm on both sides.

ReplyDeleteI say no because honor code dose not work because it can lead to more cheating and fights and even hatred. Rampant cheating has yet to import this elementary efforts to promote. ReplyDeleteI am against it because one student would have to be willing to snitch on a student. If a student is willing and dose do that then it would just cause drama and fights.”Many of these students say cheating is the only way they can keep up with their work, Galloway said; it’s cheat or be cheated”.I think this statement is true. I believe this is true because there's a lot of thing kids have to do after school. Some things are clubs, jobs, chores,etc. So they don’t have enough time in the day for homework or extra credit which leads them to cheat.{http://www.insidehighered.com/news/2012/09/06/honor-code-may-not-be-enough-solve-academic-integrity-issues-harvard}

ReplyDeleteI found this website that had all these people giving opinions and this lady was talking about how in some schools they have an honor code but the teachers don't enforce it. It wouldn't be a bad thing to have an honor code if the people that turned other people in were kept anonymous because why do you have to turn them in in front of them, why can't it wait until class because the teacher still finds out that they were cheating and the snitch does not get caught. http://scienceblogs.com/principles/2007/04/25/when-honor-codes-go-bad/
ReplyDeleteThey Dont Work, Because Even Though Some people stop Cheating, it Doesnt Stop Entirely. It Keeps Going, Also Suspensions and Agression Would Skyrocket, Kids Would Crack Under Pressure Because The Duty Would Be To Heavy, (NOOO POOP PUN INTENDED)
ReplyDeletei agree because it logical that not the entirely stop cheating
DeleteI agree if you read mine it has most of the same points.
DeleteI agree because the kids would have to report others in or they get punished. I think kids could pressure other kids to not turn them in so they don't get punished. Because then they would do something to the kid who turned them in that could be worse than the punishment. But then the kid might not cheat again because he was punished.
DeleteI agree with you because it would cause a lot of pressure for the students.
DeleteNo, I don’t think honor code would be good because kids would end up turning on each other and its not the kids job to monitor everyone around them. If there going to cheat, let them that's their decision to make and get in trouble for. Also it could put a lot of pressure on kids and they might not be able to concentrate on the test their taking. It could be good in a way but the bad overpowers the good in this case.
ReplyDeleteI agree because kids would break friendships
DeleteExactly! If someone wants to cheat, let them cheat! They won't learn that information and if they keep cheating they won't learn. If they don't learn they won't get a good job to make a living.
DeleteI don’t like the idea of honor codes because if I were cheating, a piece of paper wouldn’t stop me. You still get into almost as much trouble as you would if you did sign the paper. This is Davidson’s honor code: “Each Davidson student is honor bound to refrain from stealing, lying about College business, and cheating on academic work. Stealing is the intentional taking of any property without right or permission. Lying is intentional misrepresentation of any form. Cheating is any practice, method, or assistance, whether explicitly forbidden or unmentioned, that involves any degree of dishonesty, fraud, or deceit. Cheating includes plagiarism, which is representing another's ideas or words as one's own. ReplyDeleteI don’t think that all this is necessary, because most people get caught when your cheating, and it would put people in an uncomfortable situation if you had to tell on your friend.
I personally think that not all honor codes work maybe some but don't quote me on that. I think the ones that make the students feel ashamed of what they are doing that they are not. Like in some school they remind the students of the rules, the school makes them sign a petition before they take a test saying that they wont cheat. Also the school reminds them of what will happen when they cheat. I would say that those ones would work but like the one's where they want people to snitch is going to blow up in the schools face.
ReplyDeletei agree with you because i dont think a paper will stop cheating
DeleteI believe that the honer code wont work. Why i think it wont work is that if you cheat that it the easy way and every body like the easy way out.Plus I think that a piece a paper wont stop cheating. Also i think that kid telling on kids would start fighting and allot of kids vs kids conflict.plus that the "students of the Kellogg School of Management regard honesty and integrity as qualities essential to the practice and profession of management".

DeleteThis true in my opinion a peice of paper can be a big problem
DeleteI agree because paper won't stop cheating and it will cause tension.
DeleteI believe that honor code is bad because you have to trust the students to turn others in. Which is bad because you don't know if they are all not reporting each other and getting away with it. Also they could pressure the kids to not report them in. Because they would threaten them and that would cause them to not report them. Also kids who did nothing could get in trouble because kids could report them for nothing.

http://saas.byu.edu/catalog/2013-2014ucat/GeneralInfo/HonorCode.php An honor code is not the most effctive way to keep students from cheating on test. Most people in Wilson aren’t honest and wouldn’t be if their life depended on it. Everyone would rather lie and say they didn’t cheat or didn’t see someone cheating than be known as a snitch. I get it, it’s an uncomfortable situation to be put in. Another rule in the honor code I found, it says “Use clean language”. With the way people act today using clean language as a rule is pointless. It’s pointless at Wilson. People still do use foul language even though they know they’re not supposed to. Students still cheat though they know they’re not supposed to. That is why I believe an Honor Code would not work, especially at Wilson.
ReplyDeleteI think it would not work at Wilson because it would make things worse then they are. Wilson already has trouble this would only make things worse. Also the duty would be very difficult to deal with all the pressure. Also while it would catch cheaters it would not only give the student a bad reputation but could lead to fights.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. We all know that Wilson already has bullying, and adding the stress of turning your best friend in for cheating, and have them not like you anymore, Or, you could not tell, and get in just as much trouble for not doing anything, really.
DeleteI agree with you. Also, it really doesn't stop much.

I think schools should enforce honor codes across the country. They should enforce these codes at the least: cheating and plagiarism. Cheating: I think this is not a very good idea because when people cheat they don’t want anyone to tell on them and when they do get in trouble for it they will find out who told the teacher and the person who did tell will get beat up or pressured. Also when you turn in someone, someone else will think you are cheating and you will get in as much trouble as the person you are turning in. Plagiarism: I think this is a good idea because no child should plagiarize anyone/anything, I think this because I have researched the consequences towards kids. For example, you would get expelled or suspended, or at worst case scenario you would go to jail. I used this website: http://www-cs-faculty.stanford.edu/~eroberts/cs181/projects/honor-code/honorcodes.html
ReplyDeleteI do not agree with you. If people at Wilson were made to sign a paper saying they will not cheat, it would only make them want to cheat more. Also, some people could plagiarize without knowing it.
DeleteLet’s face it the Honor Code would not work at Wilson. Say for example that if we take on the honor code and we take a test and one person cheats and gets turned in. That one person is going to have a very very bad rest of the year. Teachers sometimes overlook things, such as what the consequences would be for that one person that told the teacher he/she was cheating. I am not saying that cheating it good but students should not be in charge of what someone is doing on a test. There are 2 major side effects for this code. One kids do not want to be known as “snitch”, many kids refer this name as something that not even the meanest or the baddest kid would want to be known as. And finally, if someone doesn’t like you and they tell on you, for cheating when you really didn’t do anything, is really really bad. I dislike this honor code and how the students have to take control when people cheat, it is their own fault for cheating.

I agree that honor code would not work at Wilson. I know that the person who tells on a certain person will get bullied and made fun of. No one will like that person ever again.

ReplyDeleteAn honor code has very many violations. Violating the honor code can be as simple as copying a paper. Many people violate the honor code without knowing that they are plagiarizing. The honor code confuses people because its a topic nobody is completely for or against. I think that in a non extreme way it would be good.
ReplyDeletehttp://studentaffairs.stanford.edu/communitystandards/policy/honor-code
I agree with you completely. I can find many ways for it to help, and many ways for it to go completely wrong. Especially Depending on what school You're in/ Going to.
DeleteI agree that they have many violations and that could be bad. Because you could violate them without knowing. Which could get you in allot of trouble. Also you could of done nothing and got in trouble. Also kids who cheat might not get caught still.
DeleteI agree with some of the things that Honor Code would bring, but there are more bad things to come with It. On this website: http://www.pingry.org/page.cfm?p=278 , They are for it, and say that Honor code is the Foundation for kids. But when you look at it, Honor Code shouldn't be. They think that kids should be all these different things, and they should be, but they shouldn't be forced to be all those things.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Ema because some of them would work like I said in my post I agree that plagiarism should get put in the honor code but not cheating because everyone would not get along very well.
DeleteI agree that not completely being against it is good. Being in the position we are we might not like the things we have to do.
DeleteI don't think that honor code is a good idea because why would a piece of paper stop a person. Plus it would just cause a bunch of fights over the kids that told and the kids that cheat. also let them get know where in life ause they wont be able to do anything on there own when they get older.http://mediaman.cox.smu.edu/detail/ethics-honor-codes-and-leadership-infusing-the-firms-climate
ReplyDeleteI do not think honor code would be effective, turning other students in is yet another way to cause MORE drama and hatred in school! Plus students could lie and say that someone cheated when they didn't, if you were mad at someone wouldn't you get back at them? THAT IS WHY I SAY NOhttp://studentaffairs.stanford.edu/communitystandards/policy/honor-code
ReplyDeleteI think that honor codes would work to some extent in all schools. It may have cause some backlash with students being labeled a snitch and getting beaten up. “You know you’re in college when you finally realized that you miss the affectionate scrutiny from your high school teachers and advisors. Gone are the days when teachers stealthily prowl the corridors and watch your every move, and gone are the days when you are under the tight surveillance of invigilators while completing your finals. When I entered college, I was thrilled to be bestowed with so much autonomy and freedom, to do whatever I wanted, however I wanted, whenever I wanted. There are no scoldings, no afternoon detentions, no physical penalties in college. There is, however, the Honor Code.” Students shouldn’t have to govern their friends and fellow students. Inforcing the honor code may make kids want to cheat more often and cheat on everything to show the schools that it doesn’t control anybody or anything.
ReplyDeleteI also think that it has its flaws, one flaw being the kids might pick on the kids who follow it because they are snitching and they aren’t respecting the people they are around every day. ”Even aside from integrity and ethics, an honor code would allow students to get a better grasp of all their material because they'd actually be learning it themselves. A code would provide motivation for students to do their work, which is especially important in a time when almost all intrinsic motivation is lost. As college students, we're motivated by extra credit to participate in experiments, bribed with free food to have our picture taken and even lured by granola bars to be solicited by church members.” Overall I think that it would be good for school.

DeleteI think that school honor codes are a nice idea but they won’t work. Apparently, statistics show that cheating gets cut in half when honor codes are enforced but I have not seen anything that specifies what happens with fights. What I’m trying to say is that when you force kids to snitch on each other, they stop trusting each other. Distrust leads to drama, drama leads to fights. Yes, honor codes cut down on cheating -most of the time- but it seems like it would lead to enough drama, violence, and lying to make it not worth it. Another thought: why not just make cheaters suffer the consequence? If they cheat on one test then fail another, it’s their fault. They shouldn’t have cheated. Why make innocent kids suffer the side effects? Also, what if someone wants revenge? They could just turn someone in for something they didn't do. People lie all the time. Especially the people within school age. Being in school age, you can’t force everyone to be mature and do the right thing. Signing a piece of paper isn’t going to stop everyone from cheating and trying to turn kids against each other is wrong.

what i think Wii happen is if we have a school honer code is that thing Wii go bad and stuff like that they. Wii be like snitch and rat and just school chaos and stuff like that it. Wii be like a mad hose in the school if miss k won't to have fewer people going to the officials then no honer code and stuff like that.
