  4. This is what I found Why we shouldn't have school year round

Do you want to go to school all year? I know I don't. If you had to go to school all year around, you might get fed up and might not do as good of work. Kids should only have to go to school part of the year.

Teachers and students need a break from school. Students might miss more school because they might take time out of school to go on vacation.

Being able to bus all those students when gas is $3 a gallon would cost a lot of money. That would mean school would cost more. Some parents might have to work more, and when their kids were off, they might not be able to see them.

    1. Actually Boston Year round school Isn't even really year round. Your not in school every day of every month. You get two and a half weeks off every like ten weeks. Instead of just having one big blob and When you come back to school just having small little breaks occasionally it would be nice to get bigger and better breaks off during the school year in my opinion and what does busing gas have to do with Year round school?

      Delete
    2. Yeah it has only a couple weeks off after so many day but it will help us learn better then normal.

    3. actually its not full year round it just splits up vacation days it does not ad school day.

    4. i don't think that year round school is a good idea because then you miss the the season you get to do most stuff and wear shorts in stead of wearing jeans or sweats al day which suck especially after p.e but we wont have it all year you will have breaks off

Honestly I am actually kinda starting to like the idea of year round school. I know I know I'm crazy but have a "Christmas Break" like every ten weeks would be cool. Getting out of school for two and a half weeks here and there during the school year would be fun.Yeah I would miss the Long ,fun and enjoy summers we used to have but imagine getting out of school for long periods of time just getting that AT LAST feeling every ten weeks ,That would be great, instead of getting it just once. And on top of that you wouldnt have to relearn all the stuff you learned before summer break. You'd only have to review a little. That would be nice too. Yeah there's cons to but in all reality it does sound bad when you hear it but when you actually read an think about it all those breaks would be nice.I know I may seem crazy for actually starting to like the idea. But I enjoy having breaks having one for two and a half weeks every ten weeks would be Great! You don't have to agree but I'm Kinda starting to like thee idea of "year round school"

    6. i don't agree because then you will not have all of your summer and if yo have summer vacation then you will be learning more because then you will have to be trying to get back to school mode like remember the stuff

Year round schools generates strong feelings like positive and negative. I don’t think i would like year round schooling because I like the 3 months off of school for summer time because of how warm it is, and people like having 3 months off. Year round schooling helps in some ways by not letting students forget a lot of schooling and everything. Peers in schools with traditional schedules students in year round schools do not have a long summer vacation. In some of these schools not all students are on year round schedule. A number of schools and districts allow parents to choose their children’s schedules. So while some schools are completely year round, others have one group of students on a traditional calendar with another group of students on a year round schedule. Research says that summer learning loss is a real problem for students especially for students who lose their memory really fast and for disadvantaged people. Evidence is showing that year round schooling is able to raise student’s grades and there achievement’s, Year round schooling is becoming an attractive strategy for more and more schools and districts. The school year is extended over a long period of time It is still 180 days long. Time taken out of summer break is spread across breaks throughout the year, which means two and a half school free weeks for fall, winter, and spring. So the year round school is a good idea in some ways, so people do not lose their memory when they come back. That’s why in my school teachers have to repeat the same things you have learned in 7th grade or 6th or any grade that you were in before summer vacation.

  7. Year round school. Some think it is better to have shorter summer with breaks in between weeks. I do not think the same. No kid has ever said they want year round school. I would rather go to school with like a week for winter, and spring break. Also with holidays. Just three days off would be fine with me. We will get more break in the summer. http://www.compclass.us/yre/my_view.html Ever kid and teen love summer. Summer is a chance to go on vacations and spend fun time with friends. Some teachers also think that we don’t need to see friends outside of school because we see them in school. Even though we do see our friends in school we don’t really get to talk because we might not have many classes together, or we are not allowed to talk during class. So we need the summer to hang out and have real fun. With year round school you would barely have the summer to do anything you wanted to do.
Year round school is a bad idea. Yes it has more learning time but the kids would get frustrated with all the work and teachers would also assign work over the little breaks in between with year round school. I personally think that getting an assignment over a break is scary. If you have all these questions and you can’t get good answers from your friends and you can’t get good answers on google then you are stuck and just have to pull something together. That could lead to having some problems like anxiety. http://www.pantagraph.com/news/opinion/mailbag/year-round-school-bad-idea-for-students/article_356f1b3a-baa2-11de-ade3-001cc4c03286.htmlAll that stress and not enough break could also lead to more dropouts and no teacher wants dropouts.

  8. I agree but I also don’t agree with year round school. I agree with it because people will probably forget less during the year round school. But that’s really the only reason I agree with it because it really makes no sense to go for so long then leave for so long because people could have sleeping habits and sometimes they might not know when it would start back up or anything. I don’t agree because of what I said about sleeping habits and when it would start or end. Also because depending on how much you focus is how much you’ll forget and soon enough you’ll get reminded after re-learning it. But if I really had to chose between his two articles, I would say I do not go for the year round school.
I disagree with most of this article because it’s talking about how we should have it just because of the fact that over the summer people will forget what they learned. I don’t think it’s a very good reason because in my personal opinion, I can hear something again that I learned and I can easily figure out what it is and how to do it because really it’s not that hard for me, but for some people it is. There are some parts I agree but it’s only like, one sentence. http://www.ascd.org/publications/educational_leadership/apr10/vol67/num07/Year-Round_Schooling.aspx
I agree with this article because it talks about why it is a bad thing. For year round school it would take a lot more money for it to keep running the way it should. It even costs more money for the parents to get there students in there so it would be like a private schools price for public school. I really would hate having that my parents would probably move me to another school. It would also change up the calendars and schedules by a lot plus we’re already used to the way we do it now so it would be pointless. http://www.deseretnews.com/article/700105078/Year-round-schools-dont-work-so-districts-should-abandon-the-idea.html?pg=all

  9. Pro because I think The more we are gone for the more stuff we forget, Because all you're thinking about is getting on the internet and on facebook. At School your learing but most people want to get out of school.I think now scenc we have electronics at school and at home like Phones,Labtops,TV and much much more. What I think people at school care more about drama friends and stuff like that. Some kids think that it is an oprotunity to be around friends and hang out with them and not to learn.I also think it is good to Have vacations because you can take a break off of learining and not get to overthrow with learing and get more eratated. So they need to take a breack nut i dont think it should be that long because you will losses me and i do not think it should be short cause they dont have a fulley refress mind and can not get chought up in work. Some kids dont want to do work cause they think they did not get refree and ready to go back.

Some kids think of it as A Con because it torcher to them and don't want to be there and all they they think of it is as prison cell.I think that if you want to get out of there faster work harder and do not mess around with friends.Like you can hang out with them in free time or at lunch but in class you need to work harder and not pick partners that you are going to mess around with and get the work done. Also they think that if they are going to be there at least give them free time or somthing.

  10. PROS
Kids in year round schools attend class about 5-10 weeks in a row. then have vacation for 2-3 weeks. that, say some educators, keeps the learning process ongoing with minimal disruption. a study at Duke University study even suggestes kids attending all year round schools are at slight avantage, because they dont forget what they learned about over the summer.school in fast-growing areas transition it year round schedules as a way to ease overcrowding. If school went all year round people that go to school might start doing better in school and get better grades and not think about what there going to do over the summer and talk during class and do what ever they want they will do what there suppost to do.
    http://www.scholastic.com/parents/resources/article/choosing-schools-programs/pros-and-cons-year-round-schools

    CONS
Having year-round school has many benefits. With the population of the nation rising each day, overcrowding has become an issue and more and more schools are being closed, adding to the dilemma. Additionally, due to the current recession, many teachers have been laid off and classroom student counts have become bigger. This type of schedule would allow the school population to be broken up into even groups, or tracks. Another benefit to this type of scheduling is the reduction in class size so that each student is given more attention. If school went all year round people at school might not do there work or be thinking about what days they do have off and what they are doing.

  12. I think that year round school should not be a choice because that's not what some adults grew up with. Most of the people don't want to be in school year round because they don't want to. I think parents should choose to put their kids in year round school instead of having the government choose. I also think that year round school is bad because it take children's and teenagers freedom away it gives them less time to hangout with their friends. Some people do want to be in year round school because they like school and there is nothing better for them to do. http://www.scholastic.com/parents/resources/article/choosing-schools-programs/pros-and-cons-year-round-schools

All because of year round school more and more school have been closing because of parents fighting because they say ''It cost more money''. Many teachers/staff have been laid off because of the number of students. The teachers would have to break up in groups to teach because there are so many kids. When schools have year round school they have to avoid the cost of having to build the school bigger and better. Schools would have made a lot of changes in the school and the would have a lot of issues between families about the cost for school and they would have to deal with a bunch of fight with kids because it puts them in the same place at the same time with kids the dislike. http://www.dominicanu.com/masters-in-education-resources/should-school-be-year-round/

    7. Spending time with your kids would prove challenging if they have year round school. You would have a lot of memory's to fill since you couldn't take long vacations. Family is more important that school, I would rather be poor and live with my family than have be super rich and have no family.

      Delete

  13. It should also consider the social disruptions that may be caused to students and their families and take a close look at the cost of switching to a year-round schedule, not just to the district itself, but to teachers, students and their families.http://www.compclass.us/yre/my_view.html If we have year round school then people may become detached to their families. Also even when we do get breaks off we may have stacked homework we need to do. So that will cut us from family time.Another thing is kids may start acting bad a school because kids get tired of being in school all day. Imagine being in school for 45 days with no break. Even if we do get better learning what does it matter if we have no family to help support you. If everyone has year round school then how will the parents be able to spend time with there kids. As in the summer you can spend time with your parents and on the weekends you can too.

Teachers who have children attending traditional schools may experience difficulty when it comes to spending time with their children during the summer vacations. Because of these potentially negative effects on the family life of students and teachers, the year-round school system was discontinued by some schools, including the Seminole County, Florida school district. http://www.drmattlynch.com/1/post/2012/04/-the-disadvantages-of-year-round-schools.html#.UuJ-xovnbnA If there are teachers with kids that go to regular school and the mom/teacher has year round it would be hard for the teacher and the kid to spend any time together. Also on the weekends if the mom/teacher has to work then the kid has to stay all alone by himself. The parent does not wanna have to leave her kid all by himself because of year round school. If the kid also had year round school then they would be on and off but the kid would have homework and would have to do that first. Also the teachers usually stay after anyways so the mom/teacher would have to stay after even longer. That is hard on the parent.

    Article #2

What I found was there are some benefits to year round school, but some parents are unsure if their child attend to year round school. I think it would be like a summer job but for a lot longer, people might learn better then normal. If we had it we would have better live achievements and maybe better grades also.

Response to Dettman's first article: I disagree with this article. They really gave some good reasons to go to year round school. Shur people spend more time on electronics then school but it is because they do it to relax and unwind and relieve stress.

Response to Dettman’s second article: I disagree with this article. Yes we forget I know because I have forgotten a lot of thing like for math I forgot the lattes method. I don’t like how it cost more than it does now because I probably not be able to go to school because how much it cost!

  15. I think that year-round schools would be a bad idea. If your parents work and have a work schedule that might not work out for going to school year-round, they might have trouble finding a way to get you to school. And it might get boring while you’re home during the summer doing nothing but you could go outside and play for a while. Yeah, you get more breaks but you only get 30 days for summer break if you go year round. Frequent breaks are a mainstay of year-round schooling, but they aren't for everyone. Patricia McCracken, who grew up attending a year-round school in Virginia Beach, Virginia, says she found the two-week breaks, which occurred every six weeks at her school, to be disruptive. "It was really hard to get involved in the work because as soon as you geared up, you had to gear back down again." However, they might also cause scheduling problems in families with other children in schools with a different schedule or for those struggling to secure child care for the short breaks throughout the year. Amy Pearson writes. Some kids during the summer have to work to support themselves. If they have to go to school year round then they won’t be able to work as much.

  16. I say that year-round-school is a terrible idea and that we should keep it like it is. One reason why we should keep it like it is now is that some families can’t get enough money during the school year to feed their kids/peers and so they need to go with their family to a farm and work to get some money for their family.
Another reason the year - round - school is a terrible idea is because some kids parents split up and they don't get to see their parents ( if they are living with a grandma or uncle) a lot so if they do go on with the year-round-school then some of us kids won’t get to see our parents much. As well as if they have no food or shelter much of anything then they would need to get money for them to buy food and clothing so they would have to work at like a Salvation Army or a farm to get money. - This is one of the other sites I looked at. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year-round_school_in_the_United_States) and this is my other one (http://www.nea.org/tools/17057.htm)
This here is the paragraph about the links from Mr. Dettman’s blog, I say that article number one is kinda right. Yeah sure we do forget things over breaks but that is because we have made more memories to look back at when we are older and say “ Yeah I thought that was the best day of that break ever” were as kids that have year-long-school would be sitting at home or trying to cram every bit of fun they possibly can into their breaks and when they get older they could say “Yeah I really didn’t get to do a lot over breaks when I was little”. And Article number two is wrong just plain wrong kids don't want to be cooped up in school some kids want to be free and feel the grass under their feet not sitting at a desk doing paper-work. As well as kids who have special needs can get really bored and get angry but were as if they was at home with mom or dad they would be happy and could get more fun out of doing stuff with their parents. If you was a kid what would you like more vacation time or less if you said more you could get out and ride a bike or go to Funplex. If you said less than you would be stuck trying to get every last bit of fun in you break and not have time to relax.

  17. Why is there year around school?.How many days off do we get if the school was in year around school. In these paragraphs i am going to tell you why year around school is good and bad.I got my imformaiton from year-round-schools.
The pros are that shorter summer brakes mean students will not lose the information they learned from when they were in school.Students with lower test score increase because people forget most of what they learned over the school year.Families who struggle to find childcare or pay childcare expenses will benefit from such programs as will children who are in sub-par childcare during summer vacation or after school.(http://childparentingbout.com/od/schoollearning/a/year-round-school-pros-cons.htm)
The cons are Students at year-round schools don’t forget what they learn during summer. They don’t get super-bored. But it still doesn’t change the fact that their summer–their freedom–is cut short by a few weeks, and they are forced to sit in a building and learn while the sun is still shining and the pool is calling their names. They have less time to vacation, less time to spend with their families, less time for summer jobs, and let’s not forget about the reduced time to do summer homework. With a shortened summer, it’s easy to go back to school (http://www.theprospect.net/all-day-every-day-the-pros-and-cons-of-year-round-schools-12111)
Kids in year-round schools attend classes for anywhere from six to nine weeks in a row, broken up by two- to four-week vacations. That, say some educators, keeps the learning process ongoing with minimal disruption. A Duke University study even suggested kids attending year-round schools are at a slight advantage, because they don't forget what they learned during the long summer break. (http://www.scholastic.com/parents/resources/article/choosing-schools-programs/pros-and-con)
Some research contends that year-round schools can have more positive effects on students who are deemed at risk for academic problems, such as children from low-income families or other students who might typically be low performers in school (Cooper, et al., 2003). A 1994 study of three year-round California elementary schools showed that each of the three schools demonstrated significant achievement gains for its highly targeted at-risk students, including low-performing students and English-language learners (Gandara & Fish, 1994). The results should be interpreted with caution, though, because the schools added instructional days to the calendar, and the year-round initiatives also resulted in lower class sizes.

  18. If i got to vote in all year school or normal school i would choose all year school. I would choose this because nobody likes school they only to school because their parents make them come but if it was for them they nobody would be at school right now. If we would have the all year round school we would have 6 weeks of school and 2 weeks of no school. I think everyone would like that we wouldn't have school for 2 weeks and only 6 weeks instead of having a huge 3 month vacation during the summer. Its still the same amount of school just with no summer. Its also a really good thing because we are not wasting the time the teachers have to waste in the first few months of school teaching their kids what they learned last year. We would also learn more things.

In all year around school kids would learn more because the teacher would give them more help because they would have more time to work with each student they have and get them the help they need. (http://www.dominicanu.com/masters-in-education-resources/should-school-be-year-round/)
Another reason why all year school is good id because many kids would not be as behind as they are in all the subject because they would learn what they would need to learn and it would stay I their heads because they would have a whole 2 month without hearing anything about school (http://www.scholastic.com/parents/resources/article/choosing-schools-programs/pros-and-cons-year-round-schools)

    1. I disagree because kids and teachers need a regular summer break. If teachers had a problem with teaching things from last year why are they just now saying something about it? Its best for parents, teachers, janitors, and kids just to leave everything the way it has been.

  19. I think is a con because if there are some subjects that they are not getting it will take longer to learn that thing that they are learning. And because in their learning there are a lot of issues like math, reading ex.And because in other countries the kids that are higher that the U.S kids have shorter school days. http://education.seattlepi.com/pros-vs-cons-extended-school-days-1571.html

And this is the reason I picked cons to because This system may prove highly for the teachers to see their families shorter but if we have shorter school days they will get to see them longer. And they will have to increase the price for learning because the tools or books that they will need. http://lifestyle.iloveindia.com/lounge/pros-and-cons-of-year-round-school-3964.html

  21. I think that year round isn't all that great. They were just talking about spreading the summer time out. It also shortens the winter and summer breaks because they would only be 30 and 15 days long. All they did with year round was spread the summer out and that's why the winter breaks would be shorter.
They say that year round is suppose to be good for us but i don't think it will change anything. Plus the schools that do do this have to spend more money to keep it warm, lights, and money to pay the teachers.

    (http://www.compclass.us/yre/my_view.html) http://www.pantagraph.com/news/opinion/mailbag/year-round-school-bad-idea-for-students/article_356f1b3a-baa2-11de-ade3-001cc4c03286.html
I really disagree with this because us kids need summer vacation. If us kids don't have summer vacation and time to have fun then how are we suppose to have fun. Also it will cost the schools a whole lot more money to keep lights on air conditioners teachers have to get paid but this is going all year long. So that means that the school will have to be doing things to raise money all year long. So the school will really be on the edge for money and will really be struggling. This is why i think that year round schooling is a really bad idea.

  22. I do not think that there should be year around school or longer school days/time periods. Reasons for it is because kids with problems paying attention will have even more problems paying attention with more school. That will cause them to not learn anything because they won't be paying attention and it could cause behavioral problems especially for elementary school kids. It also could be hard for collage or older high school students to hold or find a job and make money to support themselves. This also can affect school budgets because they will have to pay the teachers more and they might have to cut some stuff from the school and some schools already struggle to pay some teachers imagine how much they will struggle if they make a longer time period for school or have more school days.

Having school and then having a summer break would be better because for the people that have year round school will be doing stuff that they have been doing and not being learning anything new. When kids have summer break they come back and don't review they spend most of the time on learning and it will have more actual learning time because you are trying to recover the stuff you learned last year. Another bad thing about year round school you get the best season where you get to be free and go outside and and play more is cut off by a few weeks even though you wont forget what you learned i think most kids would rather have summer off than any other season. If we had year round school over the break you can have more homework because it isn't as long but teachers don't give you homework over the summer because it is too long and it is a time to celebrate going into a new grade.

Year round school is a bad idea because they do not know if the things they are trying to achieve with it can be achieved like higher test scores because kids might not pay as much attention if they go through with it. Schools also have to think how much social time they will be disturbing with their families because of year round school. I think if they have year round school that they should make the sports season longer so kids don't get bored of being at school so much. The reason they want year round school is because they say it can offer them a better education and that statement is not guaranteed because you could be just reviewing what everyone has already learned.

    http://www.compclass.us/yre/my_view.html

Kids don't need year round school they need to live there life to the fullest and with all those breaks that they give you kids might start slacking off. Most teachers should want kids to have summer break and use the school year and try there hardest rather than having year round school and having those break that cause kids to slack off. Also it would be bad because it woukld cost more for the schools to keep running because they will have to pay teachers more and they will have to pay more for anything they already have to pay for and some schools already struggle to do that.

Cause pros don't let you farm.Cause then you will never have anytime for farming. Also another reason why I don't like pros is because you barely get any vacations. If you do they are not long vacations.

It would be better for everyone and for those kids who don’t really get feed at home. If they only eat at the schools then it would help them not have to find there own food in the summer. It will also help with kids getting better grades in school. Also will help kids stay out of trouble because people say that when kids are bored they are most likely to get in trouble. That is why I think we should have all year around school.

  26. Breaks are long, sure–but teachers know how to compensate with homework. In a traditional school calendar, the single week or so allotted for fall break wouldn’t be sufficient to read, annotate, and BS an essay about a book. In a year-round school, however, breaks are long, so the homework doled out for breaks is long as well. Who needs time with their family? Books are your family; schoolwork is your life.

i think we should not have year round school because the breaks is for the kids to have fun and not sit in class and get bored and sit the summer is for swimming playing games and doing other kinds of fun stuff and it is the time to make money and ride a bike and spend time with your family.

I think it would be good to have year round school because, all kids do is play their video games and watch their movies. Also kids that hate school, will not get any better if they're at home, being lazy, but at school they can play little and, still have fun.The bad part is family. You will not get to see them that much even if you go school every day and see them at night. Some parents work at night and don't get to them until morning.(http://www.theprospect.net/all-day-every-day-the-pros-and-cons-of-year-round-schools-12111)
what is also good, you can learn more and have fun at school, even if you hate it.you get to see friends more and boyfriends/girlfriends.But,what is still bad is the cost for lunch and food, lights, medical things and, class supplies. The behavior gets worse and family has to help pay for food unless, you gey it for free.(http://www.compclass.us/yre/my_view.html)I am for it because I don't really care.

  35. Why year round school is a bad idea
I do not think we need a year round school or longer school day.
I don’t think we need this because we would start to pay less attention to school as opposed to other things. The way I see it summer break gets kind of boring so I want to go to school. But if you flip it,then someone is going to eventually want to have summer break and no one would pay any attention.

From then on there would be no point of teaching it would go to madness with yelling from teachers trying to make students pay attention. Even the idea of longer school days would stress people out. To make it happen would make students less enthusiastic to get a job or for that matter do any kind of work.

  37. What i think is if you have a long nice summer break in a pool where ever you go kids always don't want to go to school. What makes this all worse is that if we have school year round then you won't get those long nice summer breaks or get to go on your own vacation with your family. But on the other hand a lot of other kids will miss their friends from school what if they move away during summer or you can never connect with them again that would be sad. But on another hand you got school tests and other things thats why we have summer break because we need a break from school and people. And anyways teachers will teach you everything you need to know when you come back to school because thats what they're here for to help you learn.
What i think again is if you really want the kids to learn over summer send assignments home with them set a limit to get them done and if they get that limit of assignments done then maybe they don't have to owe a detention on the first day. Yes school made for leaning and sometimes having fun learning is part of life yes but most all teachers need break from school also. If kids and teachers were to vote on having longer years or shorter years i think everyone would vote for shorter year. Hey and thank you everyone who is reading my blog i appreciate it and i hope you liked it.

  38. I think that it's more of a bad idea to have more school and not see or hang out with your parents, friends, and others as much, but it does make more sense when you have more school days and less vacation days. Then that will make it more easier to remembering your school work in the summer. I agree that summer makes you more bored than ever because I remember last year for me it was most of the days just nothing to do all boring, but some days are fun you could do a lot of thing during summer break you can go swimming play more games and watch more movies stuff like that. What I hate about summer is that once school starts again, most people won't remember anything about what they learned last year.

  39. I think year round school is bad. It’s bad because kids need a social life and with school getting in he way of that then kids wont and cant have that. Another reason is that with school just going and going kids won't get enough sleep, because they will have chores or homework from the day before. Also kids will probably get worse grades due to lack of sleep, no social life and just no breaks. Kids will most likely get stressed and just won't want to work. I think there will be a lot more bullying. I think that because kids have it hard all ready with the amount of school we have now, and if we push that i think there will be a lot more suicidal acts too.

    Students would get tired of year round school with would cause more dropouts.Students and teachers need to have more time with family and with year round school you can’t have that.In the summer most kids work to save up for collage and stuff, with year round school then kids would get that opportunity. People have said that year round school has failed for years. A lot of schools don’t have enough money to have enough food, water, air conditioning, etc. {http://www.pantagraph.com/news/opinion/mailbag/year-round-school-bad-idea-for-students/article_356f1b3a-baa2-11de-ade3-001cc4c03286.html}

I do like no year round school but I would give year round school a try for once. I also like it because you have spaced breaks which is pretty cool in my own opinion.
The reason why I want it is because I can have longer periods outside or playing games. What i mean is that i can play more at different times except the weekends or summer break. Thats why i want year round school.

  41. Year round school
Cons...it will take time off everyones summer, winter and holiday breaks and we won’t have that much time off school to be able to go on trips for a long time and be able to have that much freedom for that long.Kids and teachers will be in school almost 24/7 and they won’t get a break from each other and when the school year ends kids are supposed to have almost three months off of school to be able to transition into a new grade,They change the way that your vacation is set up and you will get shorter amount of time of vacation
pros...You are in school for the same amount of time you have classes for six to nine weeks in a row and then you get broken up into 4 week vacation,

I don't think that we should have year round school because not all of us want to go to school 24/7 and we wouldn't have that much vacation time and we would always be at school.

  44. I do NOT like the idea of year round schools at all! Year round school would cause a lot of problems with family vacations, kids often wait for the whole year to go on that one vacation for a month, year round school would cut in to family fun time!http://www.theprospect.net/all-day-every-day-the-pros-and-cons-of-year-round-schools-12111 Year round school would also have a HUGE effect on the dress code if it is July and 95 degrees out do you really think girls are not gonna wear their favorite pair of shorts and tank top, and guys with their muscle shirts...it would cause an enormous disruption in dress code that would need to change.
What about the teens who need to have a job to support their family you can’t exactly say “hey boss I’m gonna be gone for the next 45 days but can you still pay me?” that would NOT happen and the only other job option is night shift and then the students would be EXTREMELY tired and unfocused which wouldn’t exactly help out there future. Why i think it a good idea is that we would have the same amount of day off but it would be a huge weeks off and then go to school.Plus why i support it is because it would mean that we would just go to school and then we would be gone for all the weeks we would get off.Another reason why its a good idea is because it would mean more time with family. Also it would mean that you would worry about being late for school because you would have the day off. "More Than 180 Days!
The best part of year-round school is that it helps students increase their overall grade.
Year- round schools don’t keep teaching their students in boring ways, they make it more exciting for students so that they enjoy school and they don’t have to think every school is the same. Students don’t forget what they’ve learned in school if they have break, students have this advantage to stay focused and be in school to study and not to fool around. Therefore, schools should year round because of the better education students receive". i got this support from http://www.debate.org/opinions/are-year-round-schools-a-good-idea-that-should-be-adopted-by-private-and-public-schools

  46. I think that we shouldn’t have year round school because it’s better to have just a summer break summer is when its hot out and what do you do when its hot out you go swimming. Whats the point of being in school when you could go swimming. And it’s a pain to be in school when theres a pool you could go swimming with. Also summers about hanging out with your friend staying the night at there house and staying up for 48 straight hours and have fun. Yeah you get to hangout with your friends but not that much, and all the teachers nage at you when you do talk to them plus you can’t even talk about what you want because you get in trouble. I understand why year round school would be good because you don’t lose as much knowledge over a shorter time period. (http://www.theprospect.net/all-day-every-day-the-pros-and-cons-of-year-round-schools-12111 )
It also probably helps the kids with learning, But I know that i get mad when i have to get up early in the morning from break and take me like a week to get back in my schedule and remember things. And imagine trying to do the ever three weeks it would honestly be crappy. Thats why summer would be the best option.

I Think Year Round School Is a Bad Idea, Many People Dont Like The Idea, So It Would Cause Even More Hate To Schools. People Like Having Weekends Off, It Gives Them Time To Relax After A Hard Week Of School, And With The Year Round School Idea, People Would Be Very Stressed And looking for a a way to vent that stress, So Bullying And Fighting Would Happen A Lot More.

But not just that, Suspensions And People Getting Expelled would also be more common, People wouldnt want to do school work too because theyd feel like theyre being pushed too much, So Grades Would Go Down, And Since They Dont Have Much Of A Summer Break, People Would Feel Depressed that they dont have much time In The Summer To Recover From The Hard Work At School, Highschoolers Jobs would Also Be Effected, Because They Wouldnt Have Time To Work.

So All In All, Year Round School Is A Bad Idea, Because Of These Reasons.

    1. I agree because most kids will get bored of the continuous task and work. They will get to used to the pattern they do for 13-14 years and get bored and defiant. Because with the way it is now the long summer break allows you to fully recover from continuous work with small breaks. Also during the summer it would effect the kids who go to get a job to earn money to save for college and other things during the summer. Plus kids would get more aggressive because it is proven without some sort of long break to recover it will build up till it's too late.

  49. I think we should stay with the normal school times. Because almost nobody wants all year round and we shouldn't because we make it perfectly fine now why try to change it. Because during the summer it is nice out and days are longer to do things that you can't while it's dark. I make it through every year without problems because summer vacation is a nice time to relax and not always run around to get to where you need to be. Because it will be easier for school to get boring if it is all year and there is not enough time to fully relax to where your fully refreshed.

Also because those few kids who do go farm during the summer will have problems. Because we need farms for food and summer is when crops are being planted and supported. If the farmers are by themselves it could take to long or they could get stressed out to the point they can't plant enough and we have shortages. Also without long enough breaks school could eventually just feel like a pattern for years of doing the same thing it you start to go crazy. So I think school should stay the same because everything is already fine and if you change it it could create problems.

    1. I can See where you’re coming from. Yes, there are things we can’t do after school in the summer, but school would not be literally all year long. We would have breaks almost every 6 weeks And we actually would have time, because we would have the 2 week breaks, plus the weekends. Also, there aren't really too many kids who go to the farm anymore. Yes, I do realize that there are still some kids, but if you would go around and take a survey from this school, there wouldn't be too many.

    2. I can agree and disagree from what your seeing from this school year round thing but you wouldn't have school everyday like you think. We would have regular winter breaks and spring breaks plus the every 6 week breaks. But I do not think it should be year round. Kids are supposed to have one big break every year, that's how it's been forever. That's how it's been since some of our parents have been in school. If we haven't thought about it until now, why is it a problem that we have to try and change for no reason? So in the end I agree a disagree with your post.

    3. In the artical I read it talks about how schools reteach things to students because they forget some things they learned in school. People that have to relearn things wasted time therefore schools should change to make it work.(http://www.theprospect.net/all-day-every-day-the-pros-and-cons-of-year-round-schools-12111)

  50. I think we should have a summer vacation for a lot of reasons. One reason that I got from (http://childparenting.about.com/od/schoollearning/a/year-round-school-pros-cons.htm), is that the school would have to pay for a lot of air conditioning in the summer, food, water, and other things, but if they did year round school, they would have to pay for it all the time, (not including the time off). But in the summer, they got a 3 month break from all of the utility bills. Also another big reason, that I found on that same website was that is for teenagers who have summer jobs, can’t have a job, because they will have mostly all year. This website had a really good reason, (http://www.theprospect.net/all-day-every-day-the-pros-and-cons-of-year-round-schools-12111), it said that with the year round school, you don’t really have enough time to recover from the last year. And I totally agree, the breaks that year round school gives you are about as long as Christmas break, and by the time that we had to go back to school this Christmas break, I wasn’t ready. But after our long summer break most kids are ready, sometimes excited to go back to school. And I don’t see why they have year round school, in the first place, because on this website, (http://www.compclass.us/yre/my_view.html) it says that teachers have said that year round school helps a student’s education, but she has no evidence to support it. Also on standardized tests, some schools with year round have shown little or no improvement on testing. So basically I think year round schooling would be a really tiring thing to have, because you will have only 2 weeks to go to your next grade, you only vet 2 weeks off in the summer, instead of 3 months. I think the schedule we have for school right now, with only a holiday breaks, and summer & spring breaks is good enough.

    1. Taylor, I agree that we should not have school year round because not only does the school have to pay money for electric bills, gas bills, water bills, and buying food for us all to eat at lunch. But our parents have to pay more money if it's year round because they have more days that they have work and taking us to school. On a regular school year schedule parents have 12 weeks to not have to buy more gas, because they don't have to take us anywhere.

  52. In this Post, I will be talking about the Pros and Cons of having year round school. It’s not as bad as you think it would be. I am personally for Year round school, and I will go into more detail as to why that is.
    First, on this website
(http://www.360-edu.com/commentary/the-benefits-of-year-round-school.htm#.UuK_JovnbnA) it talks about how much better school would be with a Year round schedule. Just imagine, getting out of school almost every 6 weeks. It’d be like having a short Summer Vacation. Also, it’d make learning easier. I know that doesn’t sound fun, but think, if you could walk into a class and take a test with ease, because we didn’t just come back from a 3 month vacation, and we still somewhat have the Information in our minds. Wouldn’t that be great? Then you’d have your grades up, and wouldn’t have homework or studying to do over the break. Imagine how happy your family would be for you.
I Also found this website (http://www.nea.org/tools/17057.htm) where they go into more detail about Year round School and how it would work. It goes into saying how we need a new program, and I agree. Nobody goes to work on a farm for 3 months at a time, which is where we got the 9 month on, 3 off Schedule, so we don’t even really need that big chunk of time off at once, anyways. However, it does go on to some cons, and I can see how this would affect us Negatively. I know how Band people are, and it’s pretty hard to have a practice during the break, and to get every single band member there for a rehearsal. Also, if parents have more than one child, and say one is in Elementary and the other is in Middle, What if only the Middle school had year round school? Then the parents would be trading off and on what kid they had at once. This would also make it harder to plan a family vacation.
Now, Year round school isn’t actually that bad. I know some people think that because it’s “year round” means we don’t get a summer, but we do. Actually, it would be like having a Spring Break almost every month. When I was in Hawaii, we had the year round schedule, and it was pretty great. Second, Imagine waking up to your alarm you forgot to turn off the night before, and you’re able to turn it off and go back to bed. It’d be great, right? There are so many good things that could come from having the year round schedule, and In this post I’ve only stated a few.
These are what I believe to be only some of the reasons why we should have year round
    school.

  53. Do you think year round school is good? No, kids need a break from school. They just need time to relax and not having to worry about grades and reading books and doing all their homework on time. Also some kids spend their summer visiting family that they rarely see for the full summer break but cutting it down is taking that time away. Also kids try to find summer jobs for college or just to have money to pay for things how are they going to do that if their summer is cut down? Kids who like to go to summer camp or do activities wouldn’t be able to with summer cut down. To me its pointless to have year round school.
Kids need a break. School can be really stressful for some kids. Also it helps the get out of the house and do something instead of cooped up in the house doing homework.
(http://www.debate.org/opinions/should-there-be-year-round-school) Parents like to plan vacations to see other family or just to have intermediate family time, why take that away? It also gives teachers time to not have to find out plans and new things for the kids. It benefits both in our traditional summer break. I feel like its just easier for everyone if we stick to our 2 month summer break instead of having little 3 week breaks throughout the year.

    1. I 150% agree with you. There are many summer camps I love going to. Take the ones through the Belin Blank center at the University of Iowa. Last summer I went to one called Junior Scholars Institute (JSI). There are many classes one could take like Trigonometry, Science, Writing and Stop Motion Animation. I took the Stop Motion class and really learned a lot. I also made a ton of new friends. i learned responsibility by having to wake up, get to breakfast and being on time to my class. I we ahd a shorter summer I wouldn't have been able to go there, learn those things nor make new friends.

    3. I agree. Not only that, but sometimes there are struggles at home. Some are with money that year round school would get in the way of. It really would get in the way of lots of things. 54. I think year- round school is a bad thing. As it says in article 1, people wouldn’t have as much time to spend with their families. Summer is the only time for me to be able to hang out with my friends and family. If students aren’t around their parents, they won’t learn how to act in society. (http://www.kon.org/urc/v5/mahalihali.html). I already see my mom for about 4-5 hours Monday- Thursday. I’m not that busy either. I’m sure there’s someone somewhere that has has more things to do every day than I do.
Some students might lose some knowledge over the long summer break. If everyone lost all knowledge over summer or other long breaks we would all be in kindergarten still. Year- round school might raise the school’s budget because the heat, and air conditioning would need to be used all year, instead of only for nine months. (http://lifestyle.iloveindia.com/lounge/pros-and-cons-of-year-round-school-3964.html) Admit it, teachers like a few months off too, to get lesson plans and to get prepared for the upcoming school year. If summer break were shorter, teachers and students both don’t like to be rushed from one grade or class from another. Those are some reasons why I do not think we should adopt a year- round school year.

  55. I think having wouldn't be bad because lots of people forget things and cant remember what they were learning before break. They blank out and can't remember anything, but with a year round school they get refreshed every month or two. Also having a long break you eventually get bored with nothing to do. yes it it fun for the first month or two but then it gets bored, when you are only off for a month that doesn't happen. There probably isn't a normal kid out there that said that being at school all day would be fun but how bad could it be, harry potter looked happy.
Just because you have to live at school doesn't mean you can't hang out with friends and family and every school has break eventually, they have to give it to you. Some people think that if schooldays were longer extracurricular activities would suffer but most schools have kids practice after school any way it wouldn't change just because school got longer it just means that it would be later. There are some bad things about year round school

  56. I believe that year round school should not be an enrollment choice for schools. I think this because many parents work all year round and don’t have any time to pick them up more often during the whole year than when we have a regular school year. You have to think that gas is really expensive at times. When a parent doesn’t have that 12 week break from buying gas more that can get really expensive. I honestly have thought about year round school in the past and I still don’t want it because kids will get more stressed out because they don’t have that giant break in the middle to just be free and don’t have to worry about anything. Kids wouldn’t have that “me” time. When kids’ summers get shortened they are still sitting in a classroom when the sun is shining and the pool is still open.
When kids our age have year round school we may have (http://www.debate.org/opinions/should-we-have-year-round-school) part-time jobs, babysitting, and other work given to us by parents, coaches, etc. we don’t have enough time to do those things. It is just setting us up to fail and our parents and other people will think of us differently because they think we can’t manage our time. Well when we get older that just gets worse because when we want to get real jobs, the college scouts will look at middle through high school grades of yours and see all of your missing and late assignments and won't let you go to their school because they would be too ashamed to have us there. The last reasons I think we should not have year round school is because I agree with Melissa Kelly a person who posted about year round school cons. (http://712educators.about.com/cs/reformtime/a/yearrounded.htm) A few things she is talking about is that “students are going to forget information whether they are out of school for three weeks or 10. Therefore, teachers will be performing four beginning of the year reviews instead of just one.”. I agree with that because sometimes I forget something the teacher taught us the day after he/she teaches it.

  57. I think that year round school is a bad thing because true we lose information in the”summer slide” but it allows more quality family time. Plus some programs would suffer”http://www.nea.org/tools/17057.htm”. Parents would also suffer from (this is just mine) having to get up early and wake a kid up year round. I also believe that that some would love to have year round school some would shearly hate having to have year round school.

Continuing my argument I believe that it would distract students during summer with the pool calling their name and the heat baking them I think that would distract them. The longer breaks although counteracting the lack of summer break but it being spread out puts more stress on a student. If a school implements it and a parent does not want it they will probably move to a new school to avoid it. So in conclusion I believe that it should be an optional choice for a parent.

The idea of the parents is nice, they should dictate if their kid should go to school year round, if their grades are pretty bad. In conclusion I agree with you and hope that this doesn't become of us.

  58. Many people think that school should be year round. I say it should stick to being what it traditional and keep the the long summer break that kids love and enjoy. Many people think that having school year round would be a good thing considering that would keep their brains fresh and ready to learn. Year round school can be pretty tough not on just only the kids but the parents that take care of the students. If we had year round school parents would have to take their kids to and back from school, and i’m saying that is a bad thing but with these gas prices it is not good, instead on long summer breaks their kids should be outside playing and enjoying the fresh free air(http://news.cincinnati.com/interactive/article/20130915/EDIT01/130913028/Debate-Should-kids-go-school-year-round- )You should be salvaging what you have earned working so hard and then getting the relief and just saying to yourself that, “Yes no more school” thats what I like about having long summer breaks.
This(http://news.cincinnati.com/interactive/article/20130915/EDIT01/130913028/Debate-Should-kids-go-school-year-round-)site mainly talks about the pros and thed cons of the what it would be like having school year round and what school would be like if it stayed the same way. It also talks about school funding and how much intermission cost for maintenance and teacher contracts. While stating people opinions. I very well do agree with this website.

The(http://www.scholastic.com/parents/resources/article/choosing-schools-programs/pros-and-cons-year-round-schools) very thought of sending kids to school year round makes some parents cringe. This site talks about how year round school should happen. I disagree with this website because they state very valid points about how school should be year around, because the reason the long break was issued was for kids that help on farms, well there still is kids that farm and the ones that don’t kinda enjoy taking a long break.

  59. I think that year round school is nonsense. Yes, it still technically is 180 days but I think that it has more cons than pros. One of the “pros” is that you don’t forget what you have learned, or at least as much of it. The problem with that “pro” is that it all depends on the kid and their motivation. Some kids are forgetful while others aren’t. Also, some actually care to study over break. If they don’t care about their grades enough to study, then maybe teachers should take a different approach. Not only that but it seems pointless to try and separate school days so much. It seems complicated and I don’t see why anyone would support that.
Another problem with year round school is that I think that it would put more stress on students. Changing repetitive schedules won’t do any good to students. For example, most people get into an every day schedule. If you do certain things in a certain order constantly, you won’t quickly adapt to big changes very easily. It would throw students off so much that it wouldn’t be worth it. The next con I will share is that some teens have summer jobs. Maybe it’s to save up for college. Maybe it’s to save up enough money to be able to fall back on when they get a place of their own. Another possibility is that their family needs the money. Whatever it is, year round school would make it harder to find and keep a job.
Dr. Matthew Lynch made a very good point (in my opinion) that “During summer vacations, parents may struggle to schedule family vacations with varying work and school schedules, particularly if these schedules are not what they are accustomed to, or if different children in the same family have different schedules,” (http://www.drmattlynch.com/1/post/2012/04/-the-disadvantages-of-year-round-schools.html#.UuLDbYvnbnA) Also, I think that good points were made in the following post. (http://www.compclass.us/yre/against.html)
My final reason is because students love summer break. If that gets taken away from us, you should know that some students will freak out. Not all students will accept it. They will stop caring. Overall, more behavioral problems will pop up from year round school.
My opinion is that no, we should not have school year round. It seems as if it would be a naive mistake for school districts to make. I think it is an irrational idea. It would cause many problems.

  61. I Would go with cons I believe we deserve more free time in the summer instead of bringing us back early. That would mean homework would be back and learning a lot because if you don't know when school starts then you would be late. We should get more time off, because school is forever and thats everybody would say that they should deserve more time or the exact time off. And when I look online there might be some people that agree to get more summer time and not let them change them so then we could go to school early and that’s what I believe.
There’s this short summary that somebody wrote cons or pro to tell why its good to come to school and why they shortened the childrens summer. The part that I read was the cons because it gives information about whether they should have the exact summer instead of changing it to an early start. This was the website I chose(http://www.theprospect.net/all-day-every-day-the-pros-and-cons-of-year-round-schools-12111). The other website I chose that agrees with me(http://www.issaquahpress.com/2012/09/25/the-are-pros-and-cons-regarding-year-round-schooling-2/). I chose this one to because it makes me understand that lots of kids get mad and sometimes they let their anger out on the school. This is why agree with this website. And there were many people that commented to that website that said school year round should be band and they also said they wanted more time so they could enjoy the pool. well Thats why I agree with this website to and it said, “kids have positive attitudes when they come to school” well not lots of kids have positive attitudes at school unless they don’t have to do home work or they had a great summer. This was why I agree with con.

  62. I'm on the side cons because year-round schools don’t forget what they learn during summer. They don’t get super bored. But it still doesn't change the fact that their summer and their freedom is cut short by a few weeks. You have less time to vacation, less time to spend with their families.

In this article one of the cons are if you run
the air condition for 12 months instead of 9 it will
cost more money. The air condition has to run all

  63. Year round school is a topic that is frequently debated. In an article that I read they talked about how school helps people with behavioral problems. The effect of all year school has less of an effect on the summer slide when people forget what they learned over the school year. (http://www.theprospect.net/all-day-every-day-the-pros-and-cons-of-year-round-schools-12111) In another article it talked about how year round school has an economical effect on people. People in high school that live in summer tourist based areas lose the cheap high schoolers that they employ during the summer. (http://childparenting.about.com/od/schoollearning/a/year-round-school-pros-cons.htm)
Year round school has it's ups and downs I believe that school should be counted by hours so that a school schedule could be more flexible. Schools in the summer need air conditioning. Therefore the cost of all year school will increase. School on it's own costs a large amount of money. Schools that go all year with more small breaks are better for school because kids spend less time re-learning the material they learned the previous school year.

  64. The website at this link (http://www.dominicanu.com/masters-in-education-resources/should-school-be-year-round/) sais that year round schooling provids problems with school mantnence like repars and to make expanshens to make room for more students with year round schooling this will be hard and a safty hazard. The cost of year round schooling is so much that most schools that change to year round schooling change back to traditional schooling. With year round schooling families with multiple children have problems with planning vacations. With year round schooling teennagers will have problems with getting part time jobs.

The website at this link (http://blog.educationbug.org/2009/08/year-round-school-pros-and-cons.html) sais that school programes like band and sports will have problems with scelduling events like concerts and games for the sports with year round schooling. The year round schools will have to be equipped for the weather. Teachers will spend more time reviewing stuff because kids can forget things in two weeks.

(http://www.pantagraph.com/news/opinion/mailbag/year-round-school-bad-idea-for-students/article_356f1b3a-baa2-11de-ade3-001cc4c03286.html) I agree with this website like they said “Having a summer vacation gives students motivation throughout the school year”.I think that if they were to have year round school they would have less kids coming to school because they really just don’t have a reason to finish because as soon as they finish they have to start again.I think they might also get overwelmed with it because when you end the school year they kinda need to get ready for the next grade get all the things they need. But they really wouldn’t be able too do that with year round school.
(http://www.chsmirror.com/news/opinion/2013/05/23/why-all-year-round-school-is-a-bad-idea/) This website has kinda the same message but with other points like what if the kids and their family want to go on a vacation to another place. It would really take away time for them to learn about the place and their culture.Or maybe they are just going to an Amusement park like disney land for a couple weeks no problem right? Well if they only have a couple weeks of break it is they would have to have time to get home unpack relax after all that fun. With year round school they would just have to hurry through their trip and not get to enjoy it as much so they could get home to make sure they had to do all those things plus get ready to go back to school. So with this we are taking time away from kids for their family and friends.Another thing i have not seen a site mention is what if the student is failing a class with such a short break they would have to go through a lot of stress to get that done. They would not have summer school to be able to make up for that class.A thing i would like to mention would be this would not only effect the kids but the parent to with year round school they also need a year round babysitter.LIke the link above said it is alot easier and a lot less money to find a babysitter for all summer rather then for two weeks every once and awhile.Plus their is after school they would have to have a year round babysitter so i feel like it would be a problem for everyone not just the kids.

  66. I don't think we should have school all year round because, it wouldn't be the same you don't have a lot of breaks and you would barley have a life outside of school. because that's basically all you do. You wouldn't get to enjoy your summer. If we did have it all year round we would probably be a lot smarter. Because you don't leave for like 2 months and come back and know nothing. That's why I think it;d be a bad idea, even though there is some good things that would happen you we did have it all year

Think that i'm with the year round school because you seem like you get more time off without it but its only because its all at one time. I do like no year round school but I would give year round school a try for once. I also like it because you have spaced breaks which is pretty cool in my own opinion.
The reason why I want it is because I can have longer periods outside or playing games. What i mean is that i can play more at different times except the weekends or summer break. That's why i want year round school.

  68. In my own personal view I feel like year round school would do no good for kids. One reason I don’t think that year round school would work is that kids don’t get nice long break for summer. They have to go to school when the pool is still open and they could be swimming and having fun with all of their friends, but instead they are inside doing schoolwork cooped up in a small room. Another thing is they have to go to school on the weekends instead of the week ending and waking up to a nice saturday morning they wake up to an alarm clock to get up and go to school. Another reason I don’t think year round school is a good idea is the homework they will give you enough homework to be evenly distributed throughout the break, this means kids will have less time to spend with their families, they won’t have any fun family memories because they have to back at school meaning they can’t take long trips. Another thing is teenagers can’t keep summer jobs because they have to go to school so they can’t work late and make money so that would cause them not to be able to support their family and not be able to get money to pay for college.
.”Breaks are long, sure–but teachers know how to compensate with homework. In a traditional school calendar, the single week or so allotted for fall break wouldn’t be sufficient to read, annotate. In a year-round school, however, breaks are long, so the homework doled out for breaks is long as well. Who needs time with their family? Books are your family; schoolwork is your life”. http://www.theprospect.net I think this is a great way to oppose year round school. I believe family is way more important than school I would rather have fun family moments than moments when something cool happened at school. The school year, though extended over a long period of time, is still 180 days long. “Time taken out of summer break is spread across breaks throughout the year, which means two and a half school-free weeks for fall, winter, and spring. The I’m-free-at-last feeling that usually precedes summer break comes at the end of each quarter at year-round schools, and it’s like Christmas every ten weeks” http://www.theprospect.net/ That is a good way to put it for year round school it is like a miracle when you get your break after all of that work.

  69. 1- (http://www.theprospect.net/all-day-every-day-the-pros-and-cons-of-year-round-schools-12111)
I think it Should stay the same as it is now cause in cons for “less summer slide” it says “Students at year-round schools don’t forget what they learn during summer. They don’t get super-bored. But it still doesn’t change the fact that their summer–their freedom–is cut short by a few weeks, and they are forced to sit in a building and learn while the sun is still shining and the pool is calling their names. They have less time to vacation, less time to spend with their families, less time for summer jobs" I agree with that because it's true and also the other friends from different school districts are having fun while you're not and you need time with your family.

2-http://education.seattlepi.com/disadvantages-extending-school-year-3741.html “Since the dawn of the organized school system in the 1840s, children have attended school primarily on a partial-year basis. Poorer rural schools allowed children time off for planting and harvesting, while wealthier urban schools gave breaks so children could enjoy summer vacations”. This passage states that this rule of not year school around has been going on for a long time and what's the point of changing it if it has been going on for a long time. Also the farming thing isn't just for country schools, people go farm in the country in the summer and in school time they come back to city so they have to have a long and a specific amount of time to farm.

3- My personal thoughts are that the year around school is a bad idea because that would mess up the time to vacation with your families and to go see your relatives and the vacation time isn't just for students its for the teachers, the teachers have maybe newborn and they also have to see their relatives. The vacation time isn't for just to “relax” its for like maybe sports or just things people specifically do for that part of time.

  70. I don't think we should have year-round school because students or teachers wont be able to see there relatives that live far away. i Think if we have year-round school that would be torture & kids might have behavioral issues for staying in this prison like FOREVER & you wouldn't have a social life teachers wouldn't see there family as much we need our FREEEEDOOOM. If we did go year-round yes we would be smarter then we are now because we would only have like 30 days of summer & we wont forget anything. The Page says "and they are forced to sit in a building and learn while the sun is still shining and the pool is calling their names. They have less time to vacation, less time to spend with their families, less time for summer jobs, and let’s not forget about the reduced time to do summer homework. With a shortened summer, it’s easy to go back to school" http://www.theprospect.net/all-day-every-day-the-pros-and-cons-of-year-round-schools-12111

  71. I think the school should stay the same. I think this because it will be easier on everyone that we can get a break from school. Also because like in the article it say that there is less stress on everyone even the teachers. Also there will be more time to get ready for the next year of school and only a month of just getting ready for the next year.
The good part of a shorter summer is that all your thoughts and knowledge from last year is still fresh in your head. Also that you can not spend all your summer bored and doing thing all summer long.

  72. Am I against year-round school? maybe but with the knowledge from the link’s I have more reason to be against the year-round school. First reason is that even though it seems you get more breaks, the breaks are shorter. So there is no difference it is just the way that the school put the breaks. Another reason is that everyone in our place of learning is used to the way our school’s break’s work and so I don’t think that we should change that. Last but not least the thing i’m most aginst is the fact that they think more time in class is help full when it is how engaged the student is. Also there was this sentence on this blog
“I love school so much that we should shorten our summer break and stretch out our school year as long as possible,” said no student ever

On the blog “http://childparenting.about.com/od/schoollearning/a/year-round-school-pros-cons.htm” it told me what happens when we have summer vacation. It told me a lot more but this was appealing it said that because we don’t have year-round school we have a 3 month break and we can lose knowledge. Now this is not good but it told me other things like the cons of having year-round school like the electricity and maintenance bill will be high because there is no big break. Also there was another blog “http://www.theprospect.net/all-day-every-day-the-pros-and-cons-of-year-round-schools-12111” and it said that there was many things good and bad about year-round school. LIke that the president likes year-round school which is great if you like year-round school but it was said in this blog that it is not better to have longer school days and more of them but it just depends on how ingaged the student is. That is why i’m against year-round school that and a few other reasons.

In this blog I found out more reasions that support me with the whole year-round school is bad.
